Excuse my while I rant!

So, I'm in my car driving home from school and the radio is on 1010AM, some Christian talk radio show.  Anyways, this dude starts going off about how big of a deal the news and "media" is making about this whole jihad cartoon thing (Some Danish newspaper had a contest to see who could write the best cartoon about jihad, the 'best' 12 were appeared in there newspaper).

So the dude starts with freedom of speech and how great it is, then starts blasting "liberals." (By the way, in my experience, this is the way these "dudes" always start...with something everyone can agree on and then they spring board into something way out in RIGHT feild)  His problem was the Muslim reaction to these cartoons and how "liberals" were sympathizing with them.  He then lept into the "ignorant mindset" of these Muslims who couldn't take a joke.

The whole segment was kind of scatter shot.  From there he went into how great the Danish people were during WWII because their ruler at the time King Christian, a christian, wore, as an act of solidarity, the yellow star that the Nazis commanded the Jews to wear.  And because of this a fewer percentage of Danish Jews were killed.  Therefore, we, as ultra conservative Christian Westerners who live in the "Greatest country that God ever created" should start puting Danish flags all over every thing as an act of solidarity with them.

From there he said that the UN should kick everyone out who sympathizes with these Muslims.

WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?!

First, the same ignorant, nontolerant mindset that this dude was talking about in Fundamentalist Muslims is the SAME ignorant, nontolerant mindset that is found in Fundamentalist Christians.  They are the same, only call their deity by a different name.

Second, for a Danish ruler to claim solidarity with Jews 70 years ago was a pretty liberal thing to do.  Need I remind you where Fascism lies on the political spectrum?  And futhermore, why is it ok to sympathize with the Jews and not the Muslims?  What makes the Jews more special than the Muslims?  dispensationalism?  The Jews had their Messiah and they crucified him.  I get so sick of Christians automatically siding with Jews.  They will be judged by the same standard as everyone else on Judgment Day.

Finally, Yeah, lets kick all those who sympathize with these Muslims out of the UN, then they can start their own allience and we can have WWIII.

I will break into your thoughts
With what's written on my heart
I will break, break

I'm so sick, infected with
Where I live
Let me live without this
Empty bliss, selfishness
I'm so sick
I'm so sick

If you want more of this
We can push out, sell out, die out
So you'll shut up
And stay sleeping
With my screaming in your itching ears

I'm so sick  (of you)

....Parentheses are mine the rest is Flyleaf...I want to dedicate this to the Tea Party

So, yesterday I witnessed something rather ironic.  I was sitting upstairs in the student lounge at Truett.  I was reading an internet article about how Pat Robertson pissed off the entire country of Venezuela by openning his big fat mouth the other day, when a girl I knew came in the lounge.  We were exchanging pleasantries, "How you been?"  "Good, how have you been?" You know that sort of thing.  While we were talking she went over to the Dr. Pepper machine and put her dollar in.  Well, I knew something was wrong with it when the bill acceptor started making the sound of those old dot matrix printers.  After about 2 minutes, the sound stopped.  Her dollar was gone and she had no Dr. Pepper.

Well, about 45 minutes later a different girl went to place her dollar in the machine and found my friend's dollar.  Then she said probably the dumbest thing, "Look a dollar.  The Lord does provide."  All I could think about was how if the tables were turned what would her reaction have been then.  What if that type of theology permeated all of life?  What if, worse yet, if that theology already permeated our lives?  Can something be "from God" if it was taken from someone else who is no less righteous that yourself?

So, today I was in Starbucks finishing a Bible study on Hosea when the pastor of what will remain an unidentified church came in and sat down to work on his sermon.  For the record I have been to this pastor's church and found his message lacking.  So anyway, this dude sat down and began typing away.  I asked him, "What cha workin on?" He replied, "My sermon for this week."  I simply sat back and continued to mind my own business.  We sat opposing each other for about 2 hours, during wich time I notices that he had not referenced any materials while writting his sermon.  He had brought two books with him, but they only served as a place to lay his cell phone.  By the way neither was a commentary nor a Bible.  What type of pastor writes a sermon without pouring into the text to find out what it meant to the original readers and listeners?  What type of pastor writes a sermon relying solely on his own understanding and intellect?  What type of pastor writes a sermon without any outside source?  I know.  One who doesn't preach from the text.  One who doesn't care what the meaning of the text was to the original reader.  One who is caught up into the post-modern understanding of what Church is.  One who strips his life of any mean that could possibly be offensive to any other post-modern.  Needless to say I left there with a bad taste in my mouth.
